Peer Review Policy
The Journal of Sociology in East and Horn of Africa operates a rigorous double-blind peer review system to ensure the publication of high-quality scholarly research. Neither authors nor reviewers know each other's identities throughout the review process.
Editorial Screening
Upon submission, each manuscript undergoes an initial editorial assessment to determine whether it:
- Fits the aims and scope of the journal;
- Meets the journal's formatting requirements;
- Demonstrates sufficient scholarly quality;
- Complies with ethical publishing standards.
Peer Review Process
Manuscripts that pass editorial screening are assigned to at least two independent experts with relevant subject expertise. Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on:
- Originality and significance;
- Methodological rigor;
- Theoretical contribution;
- Quality of analysis;
- Clarity of presentation;
- Validity of conclusions;
- Quality of references.
Editorial Decision
Based on reviewers' recommendations, the Editor may decide to:
- Accept without revisions;
- Accept subject to minor revisions;
- Invite major revisions and resubmission;
- Reject the manuscript.
The Editor-in-Chief retains final responsibility for all publication decisions.
Confidentiality
Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents and may not disclose or use unpublished information obtained through peer review.
Conflict of Interest
Reviewers who have any financial, institutional, professional, or personal conflict of interest that could influence their judgment must decline the review invitation.
Review Timeline
The journal aims to complete the peer review process within 4–8 weeks, although review times may vary depending on reviewer availability and manuscript complexity.
