About the Journal

Journal Description  African Journal of Geosciences (AJGS) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing high-quality research across the geosciences. The journal provides a platform for the publication of original research, review articles, short communications, technical notes, and interdisciplinary studies that contribute to understanding the Earth, its processes, resources, and environmental systems.

AJGS particularly encourages research addressing African geological and environmental challenges while maintaining a global scientific perspective.

This journal operates under a Gold Open Access model. All articles are immediately and permanently available online free of charge to readers, with no access restrictions.

License: Content is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. This permits use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are credited, and the use is non-commercial.

Publication Frequency 

The journal uses a Continuous Publication model. Articles are published online upon successful editorial and double-blind peer review process, and final technical copyediting. While processing times vary, the time from submission to online publication averages 2 to 5 months.

Authors retain full copyright of their work. By submitting and publishing with this journal, authors grant the journal the right to distribute and display the article under the agreed Creative Commons license.

Archiving and Digital Preservation

African Journal of Geosciences ensures the long-term preservation of published content through inclusion in the LOCKSS and CLOCKSS archival systems. Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are assigned to all published articles. The journal upholds PKP standards for sustainable journal archiving and preservation.

Journal History

Established in 2025, the African Journal of Geosciences was founded to revitalize critical geological scholarship in the region and globally. It seeks to bridge theoretical inquiry with lived experiences, policy challenges, and intellectual decolonization in the African context.
