About the Journal

The East African Journal of International Relations is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing empirical and theoretical research on diplomacy, international politics, regional integration, and global governance with a focus on East and the Horn of Africa. The journal provides a platform for scholars, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to share high-quality, policy-relevant work that deepens understanding of international relations and regional cooperation in Africa.

Focus and Scope

The journal covers a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Diplomacy & foreign policy

  • Regional integration & cooperation

  • International security & peacekeeping

  • Global governance & international institutions

  • Conflict resolution & mediation

  • International law & human rights

Interdisciplinary approaches combining international relations with development studies, political science, economics, or security studies are also encouraged.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. All content is freely accessible without subscription or payment barriers.

Article Processing Charges (APCs)

Founded in 2025, the East African Journal of International Relations was created to fill a critical gap in academic publishing for region-specific international relations research. It aims to elevate African perspectives in global diplomacy and governance discourse and foster knowledge production that informs policy and practice.
